Course descripton

This one-day class is an extension of the Agile and Lean workshop for managers. It discusses in more details the artifacts and roles in Scrum and Kanban Agile approaches, similarities and differences between Kanban and Scrum, basic project planning principles in an Agile environment, and the Agile metrics.
We learn how individual team memebers can succeed in self-organizing teams and how to introduce and sustain an Agile culture of continuous improvement. The class is also extended with excercises to grasp a better understanding of the Kanban Method and Scrum.

Recommended follow-up courses for team members: Successful Agile Retrospectives, Team Kanban Practitioner (TKP), Scrum Master Foundations, Scrum Product Owner Foundations, Project Estimation and Monte Carlo Forecasting, and Agile Metrics and Monte Carlo Forecasting.

Learning objectives

At the end of the class the participants will:

  • Understand basic Agile, Lean and servant leadership concepts
  • Know the Agile manifesto and twelve principles of Agile software
  • Grasp what is a self-organizing team and how to succeed in it
  • Learn Kanban and Scrum principles, roles, and artifacts
  • Recognize the differences between traditional Waterfall and Agile approaches and the impetus for Agile transformation
  • Understand why there is no project manager and no Agile product manager
  • Know which Agile methodology to use depending on the organizational context
  • Be able to set up and run an initial Scrum and (proto) Team Kanban system
  • Realize how to introduce and sustain an Agile culture of continuous improvement
  • Interpret Agile metrics and make improvement decisions basing on objective information they provide

Serhiy is a hands-on lean Agile transformation trainer and coach with a strong track record in driving and achieving sustained positive changes in the global companies as Philips, TomTom and Intel.

During his professional life Serhiy was holding numerous engineering and management positions and gained broad experience in Lean and Agile transformations, change management, strategy definition and execution, building and managing high-performance multidisciplinary distributed teams, definition and engineering of high scale new software and hardware products, outsourcing to Asia and Eastern Europe, supplier relationship management and intellectual property creation.

Serhiy holds MBA degree from the Nyenrode Business University, The Netherlands, Master degree "cum laude" in Applied Mathematics from the Lviv State University, Ukraine and a number of professional certifications: Accredited Kanban Trainer (AKT), Kanban Management Professional (KMP), Team Kanban Practitioner (TKP) from the Lean Kanban University, Lean 6 Sigma Green Belt, Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute, Certified SCRUM Master (CSM) and Certified Scrum Professional (CSP) from Scrum Alliance, PRINCE2 Foundation from the APM Group. Serhiy is an author or co-author of 19 published patents.

Serhiy fluently speaks English, Dutch, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian languages and has basic knowledge of German and French languages.
